Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has discussed Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns' reported target, Khanyisa Mayo's future.

According to Tinkler, Mayo could remain with his current club City, despite speculation about a potential move during the off-season.

Tinkler, has noted that the forward, who has been a significant player for the team this season, is under a four-year contract with the club. Mayo's performances earlier in the campaign saw him rise to the top of the scoring charts, but he has been overtaken lately.

“Mayo has a four-year contract with the club, he is here until someone offers stupid money for Mayo. But Mayo is part and parcel of this team, he is going to be here next season, that I can guarantee you, he ain't going anywhere,” Tinkler told journalists after their loss to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.

While Mayo's form, like that of the rest of the Citizens, has dimmed in recent times, with the team yet to secure a win this year, his contributions remain invaluable to City.

In contrast, Pirates have seen the emergence of rising star Relebohile Mofokeng, who has made a significant impact in his first full campaign with the senior team after graduating from the development ranks. Pirates coach Jose Riveiro praised Mofokeng's rapid development into a key player for the team.

“I’m not surprised, like I said before it’s difficult to make the 20 (man squad) in Pirates, it’s difficult to make the starting eleven.

“It’s very difficult and he is performing in a way that he is getting all of our confidence to continue playing him. He is just improving; he is still very young. Little by little he is becoming a complete football player,” Riveiro said.

Another standout player for the Buccaneers has been Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi, who has been a mainstay in just his second top-flight campaign since joining from SuperSport United. Riveiro highlighted Maswanganyi's importance not only to the team but also as a draw for fans.

“He is the candidate for obvious reasons and I’m not even to discuss why or why not so the criteria that’s a different discussion and it’s probably going to be difficult to find an agreement but for me it’s what the people want and to see in the stadiums and TV and Tito is one of those players everyone wants to see playing football,” the Spaniard said.

Looking ahead, unlike Cape Town City, Pirates are gearing up for their next challenge as they face Chippa United in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup this weekend.
