The exact role of Morgan Mammila on the Chippa United bench has now been explained.

Mammila, who was the head coach at the club, stepped aside to take over the role of a technical director after Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo were appointed as co-coaches.

Strangely, Mammila continues to sit on the bench during matches at the Gqeberha-based club.

"Morgan's role at the bench is to advise us," September tells KickOff.

"Remember he was there for 18 games last season, so his role is to analyze the game while it's going on.

"He's got great knowledge of this football club and players, so his role is to advise. He is part of the technical team."

September says it doesn't bother him and Kopo to have their predecessor sitting with them on the bench all the time.

"He is the one who recruited us and he is part of the reason we are at Chippa United.

"Having him with us all the time doesn't bother us because we have a good working relationship with him, the chairman trusts all of us.

"Me and Kwanele we are still co-coaches, it's just that I'm the one who does most of the standing on the bench during matches, but the real professor Kwanele Kopo is the one leading us with his experience. I'm probably the face [laughs].

"Our mandate is to keep the team in the PSL while at the same time trying to introduce players from the DDC to the first team.

"And I think we are on the right path to achieve both of these things, South Africa has the best talent in their youth structures.

"It's just that in these parts of the country Chippa United DDC teams have no one to play against, they only get real competition in the DDC matches.

"At SuperSport United our youngsters had the likes of Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Moroka Swallows reserve teams to play friendly matches against, those are some of the things that prepare their boys very well.

"And there's a lot of academies to play against in Gauteng, while over here we are the only team."
