Manchester United have now reportedly made an offer for a new star who could cost them at least €50 million (R1 billion).
With their squad blighted by injuries this season, particularly in their backline, United are widely expected to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.
During their shock 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday, manager Erik ten Hag was forced to play midfielder Casemiro at centre-back due to the unavailability of central defenders Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.
With signing a defender seemingly high on the priority list, it is now reported that the Red Devils have made an early move for a Serie A star.
According to Calcio Mercato, United have submitted an offer to Brazilian star Bremer of Juventus.
The report claims that United are ready to pay a fee of €50 million for his signature, and are willing to give the South American wages of €10 million (R199 million) per season at Old Trafford.
It is further reported, however, that Juve could demand a fee of €70 million (R1.3 billion) for the centre-back, but it is believed Bremer would be satisfied with the abovementioned annual salary, although he would have to give up UEFA Champions League football next season.
The 27-year-old has helped the Bianconeri keep 14 clean sheets in 34 matches in Serie A this season, and also played a big role in Juve being the joint second-best defence in the league this term alongside Bologna, having conceded only 27 goals so far.
