Kermit Erasmus’ second spell at Orlando Pirates is heading for a disappointing end with the veteran striker now moving towards one of the worst campaigns of his career in domestic football.

For all his abilities, Erasmus hasn’t had the best of times at Pirates this season.

Just a single goal in 11 appearances is neither encouraging nor inspiring.

That goal came in the Carling Knockout win over Cape Town Spurs in October in what was the only match that he has played from start to finish this season.

Erasmus last played on November 25 when he came on for the last 11 minutes against Richards Bay FC.

Worse is that the contract that he signed upon joining from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022 runs up at the end of June.

This leaves him with his back to the ropes and in desperate need of an explosive finish to the season if his performance are to trigger any new contract negotiations.

Only once before has Erasmus had such low numbers playing on the local front.

This was in his first season (2007/08) playing in the PSL at SuperSport United when he scored once in 11 appearances.

The difference is that back then he was a 17-year-old kid at the start of his career, which then took him to Holland, France, Sweden and Portugal through to spending time at Sundowns and Cape Town City.    

The pint-sized striker turns 34 in July.
