Royal AM moved to within one point of the top eight in the DStv Premiership after defeating Cape Town City 2-0 on Sunday evening.
Wandile Mabuza and Sedwyn George came in for the host, while Lorenzo Gordinho, Khanya Leshabela, Patrick Fisher, Thabo Nodada, Taahir Goedeman and Jo Paciencia indicated City’s changes.
The Citizens didn’t have a comfortable start and nearly trailed when Sabelo Sithole lashed in from a tight angle following a diagonal ball, but Darren Keet produced a smart save.
Sithole was granted another chance in the midway phases of the first half from a quick layoff by George after a press from the front, but Keet smothered him again.
George took matters into his own hands and made the deadlock ten minutes to halftime when he leaped onto Kabelo Mahlasela’s surging cross to head in the near post.
Eric Tinkler set out a clear objective to his outfit past the halftime interval and introduced Heaven Sereetsi ahead of Paciencia.
George missed a golden chance to extend the lead with another at the far post this time around, but he went across the face of the box after meeting a floated delivery.
Thwihli Thwahla did add a second through none other than Sithole who combined with a layoff from George to run in unmarked into the area and finished comfortably.
A window of opportunity were given to the Citizens around the final quarter from a free-kick by Relebogile Mokhuoane, but he didn’t test Hugo Nyame.
Lesotho international Motebang Sera got a succession of chances to add to the home side’s lead later on, but he mis-fired on both occasions.
However, the host maintained the momentum around towards the end and comfortably wrapped up the win to go tenth on the table.
